Welcome to the FitzWalter Arms, Canterbury

A friendly pub and B&B near Canterbury, ‘The Fitz’ promises fine ales, food and 400 years of history…

Welcome to The FitzWalter Arms

Set among some of Kent’s most beautiful countryside, The Fitzwalter Arms is a historic hostelry that provides rest, relaxation and refreshment in the charming village of Goodnestone.

A cosy and welcoming place to enjoy a proper pint and good, honest food, it’s also a great base for exploring nearby Canterbury - with three bedrooms offering everything you need for a comfortable break.

To eat, drink or stay here is to immerse yourself in history. Dating back to 1589, ‘The Fitz’ sits in Goodnestone Park estate, once frequently visited by Jane Austen - and it remains a blissfully traditional pub today, full of character with its open log fires, wooden floors, exposed brick walls and hops lining the beams in true Kentish style.

Even the entertainment here is in keeping with tradition - with laid-back pursuits like dominoes, darts, cards and bar billiards, and the classic Kentish game of bat and trap.

And if even that sounds like a little too much effort, you can simply unwind in our gorgeous garden - the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine or a pint of Shepherd Neame ale on a summer’s day.
